When it applies
United States: Most states, per additional driver. Avis states no charge for a spouse or domestic partner, for an employer or regular fellow employee travelling on company business, or for a disabled renter who has completed the non-licensed renter form.
Nevada, United States: Nevada only, per additional driver. The same exemptions apply as elsewhere in the United States.
New York, United States: New York only, per additional driver. Avis also quotes a weekly cap of $35 for this fee on the same page.
What it adds up to
Over a seven-day rental, using the published rates:
- United States: $91 a week
- Nevada, United States: $77 a week
- New York, United States: $35 a week
That is arithmetic on the published rate, not a quote. The rental itself is priced per search and is separate.
How we checked this
We read Avis's own pages and recorded the charges it states for additional driver fee. Nothing here is averaged across locations, and where Avis publishes nothing we write "not published" rather than a figure of our own.
